All 17 years I worked for the Postal Service they threw privatization at us-nothing happened!” “Ah It will never happen it takes a 2/3 Constitutional vole in the Senate stop the fear mongering!” “What’s so bad If we go under Commerce then we will be real federal workers with better benefits!” “I add value to this company I won’t be touched?” “These changes are long over due!” “Privatizing will get rid of all the managers that bloat the service and streamline us-I’m all for it. “The way they run this place how could it hurt?” “This is just a tactic of the Union”!
The above comments mirror some of the misplaced comments circulating in the postal world regarding the current efforts of embedding the Postal Service into another federal department, a first step in privatizing large swath of postal operations. The Postal Service’s history is one where privateers have always decried the govem ment’s involvement in the movement and delivery of the nation’s mails and the monopoly it legally has granted by the Private Express Statutes.
